Feast Thine Eyes...

This gorgeous piece of loveliness is a custom-carved and -painted Golding RingSpindle featuring a vintage, signed Michaela Frey bangle as the ring.

Michaela Frey Wien of Austria is a leader in distinctive enamel art jewelry. The company’s jewelry has been recognized by some of the foremost art institutions in the world, including the Louvre in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. In 1989, the company received the right to print the Austrian national emblem next to its name, the country’s highest art distinction. Michaela Frey, who founded the company in 1951, died in 1980.*

Tom let me see the bangle, and I asked him to use his artistic sensibilities for the whorl and to surprise me with the design. The beautiful roses on the top were based on the enamelled ones on the bangle. Look at the detailed carving of the leaf edges!

It is just wonderful, and I am thrilled with it.

Tom tells me he has a few more bangles left...

Beautiful! May I ask what the specs are? Length, whorl diameter and weight? Ooo la la!

Moira, the spindle whorl is 2.75", of walnut. The shaft is also walnut, 5/16th" x 8.75", and the weight is 1.34 oz. HTH!

Uh, Stasia dearest, this is getting spooky. The whole, "you're living out my secret geeky farm dream" bit aside, now there's the spinning...did I blog about my learning to spin woes? I've been longing to try out a spindle, and this January made it one goal for the year...try it out so I can either get on with it or get over it...no more drooling and wistful daydreams. Two canceled spinning classes later and I'm on the verge of chucking the whole deal as "must not be meant to be"...then here's your gorgeous spindle staring me in the face. Seriously, if I ever make it out to the farm with spindle in hand, will you show me? Pretty please with candy on top?

And that break you were talking about needing...name the place and I'll meet you for a cuppa. You my dear have had one heck of a June. I am sorry beyond words to hear about your father. Holes are hard to fill.

Hugs and sloppy bulldog kisses from all...
